Enhancing Community Health Skills in Eastern Samar

Training on Tuina Massage, Ventosa, and Moxibustion – Islands of Manicani and Homonhon, Guiuan

In its continuing mission to strengthen community-based and integrative health care, INAM Philippines (Integrative Medicine for Alternative Healthcare Systems) conducted an Enhancement Training for Community Health Workers (CHWs) on Tuina Massage, Ventosa, and Moxibustion in the islands of Manicani and Homonhon, Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

The training aimed to enhance the skills and confidence of local CHWs in delivering safe and effective traditional healing services within their communities. Participants reviewed the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and learned hands-on techniques in Tuina (therapeutic massage), Ventosa (cupping therapy), and Moxibustion (heat therapy).

This initiative builds on INAM’s long-standing efforts to empower community health workers especially those in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas to become active partners in promoting holistic and accessible primary health care.

Through this activity, INAM continues to bridge traditional and modern healing approaches, ensuring that natural, integrative, and community-led healthcare remains available to families in the remote islands of Eastern Samar.
