The 1st Local Community Health Workers Assembly marked a milestone for community-based health initiatives under Project Pagbangon in Guiuan, Eastern Samar. With the theme “Pagbubuklod ng mga CHPs at CHWs tungo sa mas malawak na pagpapaabot ng serbisyong pangkalusugan sa Isla ng Manicani at Homonhon,” the event celebrated unity, collaboration, and empowerment among Community Health Practitioners (CHPs) and Community Health Workers (CHWs).
Organized by INAM Philippines (Integrative Medicine for Alternative Healthcare Systems), the assembly brought together local health volunteers from the island communities of Manicani and Homonhon two areas that continue to rebuild and strengthen their community health systems through people’s participation and solidarity.
Day 1 of the event focused on sharing experiences, recognizing challenges, and highlighting community successes in health service delivery. Through workshops and group discussions, participants identified ways to improve coordination among health workers and enhance the reach of holistic and integrative health services to every household on the islands.
The assembly fostered a sense of collective purpose affirming that when communities unite, health becomes not just a service, but a shared responsibility.
